Need Overview

Need Name: Perimeter Fencing
Type:
Funding Source:
Category:
Sub Category:
Estimated Cost: $2,600,000
Description: Rehabilitate the perimeter fence and gate replacement access at the Kotzebue Airport, improve airport drainage.
Priority: Short
Need Origination: FAA Initiatives
Justification: Four existing perimeter fence gates are in need of rehabilitation including replacement, and one new electronic gate is needed to improve airport security. Wind bracing has failed on all electronic gates due to heavy winds, and the gates frequently get blown out of their end supports. The additional gate is needed to provide general aviation pilots direct access to their aircraft and keep their vehicle traffic off the main apron. Grading in ditches will be required to maintain drainage, and the new gate will require fill and culvert to provide access.
Notes: Have a recommending letter from FAA. TSA did not write us up for the fencing, but left comments.
