Description:
This project proposes to resurface the gravel runway, taxiway, and apron. The runway safety area will be widened and end areas lengthened to meet standards for the critical aircraft. Because the runway embankment is confined by a drainage on one end and the Kinak River on the other, the runway will be shortened by 120’ to accommodate the longer end RSAs. The runway length is adequate for the critical aircraft. The runway operational surface will be widened to improve crosswind coverage. Supplemental improvements include replacement of airfield lighting, markings, and navigational aids. This project will provide erosion protection along the Kinak River.

Justification:
The airport's operational surfaces are in fair to poor condition. The runway and taxiway lighting systems are beyond their useful life and need to be replaced to maintain reliability for operations during nighttime and inclement weather. Widening the runway will help mitigate for wind coverage that is below FAA standards. The south end of the runway is located on the outside of a meander bend and Kinak River erosion is nearing it. Erosion protection is needed to protect the runway embankment, maintain structural integrity, provide resiliency, and prolong the life of the runway.
