Description: There are significant depressions on Runway 27/09, which are causing a large area of ponding between Taxiways C and D. The pavement must be sufficiently drained and free of depressions to prevent ponding that obscures markings or impairs safe aircraft operations.

Need Origination: Letter of Compliance
Justification: FAA performed an inspection of OTZ in Summer 2021 and provided DOT with a letter of correction for the areas of the runway experiencing settlement. In August 2021, Alaska Airlines informed the Airport Manager of damage that occurred to two of their jets (in-board flap fairings), declaredly as a result of water damage experienced while traversing ponded areas of the runway during landing operations.
