Sub Category:
Estimated Cost: $611,000
Description: This project will look at potential airport locations for the new community site for Napakiak. Each site will have a planning review of environmental information, buildability, land ownership, and planning level cost estimates for construction and maintenance. A preferred alternative will be recommended. The community of Napakiak is threatened by severe erosion. Potential airport locations will be identified near the preferred new community site. The current airport is expected to be severely impacted by river erosion by 2030. The scope will include public involvement, environmental considerations, existing conditions, aviation forecasts, facility requirements, alternatives development and evaluation, financial feasibility analysis, intermodal connections, and a wind analysis.
Priority: ASAP
Need Origination: Community
Justification: The City of Napakiak is experiencing strong erosion by the Kuskokwim River. The river is expected to threaten the river within 10 years, so the community is looking at relocating.
