Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities
ALASKA AVIATION DATABASE
a component of the
Alaska Aviation System Plan

Need Overview

Need Name: Update ALP
Type:
Funding Source:
Category:
Sub Category:
Estimated Cost: $515,000
Description: The scope will include public involvement, environmental considerations, existing conditions, aviation forecasts, facility requirements, alternatives development and evaluation, an ALP, facilities implementation plan, financial feasibility analysis, and intermodal connections.
Priority: Long
Need Origination: Sponsor
Justification: Planning for Chevak Airport has not been updated since it was made a USPS postal hub in 2012. The existing ALP shows an ultimate crosswind runway, but not a runway extension, which may also be needed. The City of Chevak has been looking into funding opportunities for an extension; therefore, it is prudent for DOT&PF to develop an ALP that includes the runway extension and the anticipated timeframe for the extension.
Notes: AIP Handbook, Change 1, Policies: Update intermodal connections available near the airport (b)(5), (b)(6), and (g)(1); foster effective coordination between DOT&PF and the City of Chevak (g)(2).
