Need Overview

Need Name: Reseal Apron
Type:
Funding Source:
Category:
Sub Category:
Estimated Cost: $170,000
Description: The project proposes to reconstruct or rehabilitate portions of the Bethel West Apron, Taxiway/Taxilane G, and the ARFF/SREB apron. The project also includes replacing airport perimeter fencing and gates. Other improvements include resealing apron pavement and replacing Taxilane G lighting.
Priority: Short
Need Origination: Inspection
Justification: The paved areas of Taxiway/Taxilane G and a small portion of the West Apron have extensive cracking and several pavement failure locations. The pavement is deteriorating and the structural section appears inadequate for the current design aircraft, MD-80. There is extensive pavement cracking found on the majority of the West Apron and in front of the ARFF/SREB buildings that will require rehabilitation within the next 5 years. The pavement southwest of the Alaska Airlines Terminal building appears to be in good condition and will only require a resealing application to extend the pavement’s useful life. The perimeter fencing and gates have shifted due to the melting permafrost resulting in leaning fence line or in some cases gaps under the fence. The fence does not meet FAA or TSA Part 139 requirements which are required to prevent unauthorized access to the airport.
